Kylee and Craig. Fifteen years.

The traditional gift for a 15th wedding anniversary is crystal. The modern, updated version of the 15-year-anniversary gift is glass, or a watch.”

I smiled when I read this online.

Not because I plan on gifting or receiving crystal to my husband of 15 years today.

And, not because either of us needs more glass. (If you know Craig, then you know that we already have a lot of glass. #glassblower.)

But the watch thing...

...this is why I smile:

A few weeks ago I asked Craig if he could find a watch battery for an inexpensive, blue-banded watch that holds a lot of sentimental value for me. It’s nothing special. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was bought at a garage sale or something. The brand? “Vaseline.” [Insert shoulder shrug] But…  no matter, it was my Mom’s.
I wore it a lot after she died.

Craig didn’t forget my mention of the watch battery.

Just this past week, he handed me the watch.

It was ticking again.

And this...

THIS sums up my relationship, my marriage, to my best friend.

He remembers.
He listens.
He takes care of me.
He’s thoughtful.

He’s Craig

And that is my gift on this day that I celebrate our 15 years of marriage.

Sigh.

I am not an easy person to be married to. (I won’t get into all of that here…)

But, I’m not.
Craig - thank you for loving me.

A couple of years after we met back in 1997, I ran across the phrase, “From the moment I beheld you my heart was irrevocably yours.”

It rang so true then.

And it does today.

That day he proposed...

I started writing a blog post two weeks and the first line of it was, “I fell in love with my husband again last week…”

I feel like I could write that again and again.

From the girls this a.m.

Craig, I love you.
I smile as I type this.
I love you because we have this thing that I’m not convinced is very common.
This relationship we have it’s just… easy. (Yes, there have been hard parts.)

I love that I can still make you laugh. (And vice versa.)
I’m so thankful that over time we’ve allowed one another to be who we are.
We support, we encourage, we push, we hold one another accountable, we press on and we do all of this together.

I remember when we first started dating and I’d write your name and then my name. I thought “Kylee and Craig” and “Craig and Kylee” just sounded so great together.

It had a nice ring to it.

...and it still does.

Happy Anniversary, sweet man.
Here’s to 15 x 15 x 15 x 15 more!

Love,
Me

  1. Happy Anniversary!!! Your birthday posts and these posts are always beautiful!!! The throwback pictures are awesome, and funny enough the 1997 style of clothing is back again! I just hope they never feel the need to bring back those low low jeans, LOL!
