Who I want to be.

Growing up I had an idea of how I wanted life to be.
How I'd act in certain circumstances.
What my hair would be like. (Let's be honest, this is how I think.)
What color business suits I'd wear. (Never navy.)
What life might be like. (It never included Mexico.)

I never thought about how I would raise my daughters. (Or that I would even have them.)
I never thought that I'd be singing, "Where is thumbkin?" 8 times a day. (And actually enjoying it.)
I never knew I'd smile this much.
I never knew that a conversation with an almost-three-year-old could be quite so entertaining.
I never knew just how perfect it feels to have a teeny 14-month-old hand tap my shoulder while I hold her close and whisper, "shhhhh..."

Growing up I had an idea of how I wanted life to be.
But it's nothing compared to how it is.

  1. Beautiful photo!! Love what you wrote too. :)

  2. I love this. So true...we each have a plan, and quite often, it's nothing like we expected (in a good way).

    Love your pink jeans. ;)

  3. beautiful, friend! thanks for sharing those thoughts today... they're encouraging. :)

  4. LOVE this picture, but mostly love the words. and YOU.

  5. Oh. Love every word.

(Also, I have commented on most of your recent posts. . . but for some reason my phone won't do the verification code. Boo. So, I'm reading and enjoying even if I can't comment.

    Love you.

  6. Great photo. I just sang Thumbkin to myself but thinking about you singing it. :)
