Keepin' in real, yo.

So the blogging world is filled with incredible photos of children, of food, of life. It's like some bloggers seriously are full-time, professional photographers, right? How in the world do they do it all?

A few weeks ago I was reading a friend's blog, Crafting Crazy, and I loved this post: Nobody's Perfect.

Nat hit the nail on the head. Read it.

And in solidarity, I wanted to give you a peak into my Sunday afternoon.

Craig is working.
We had breakfast with my cousin and her husband at a local hotel,  played outside
and inside...

And this, dear friends, is how my house looked at just one point throughout the day.

(iphone pics. not great.)

The kitchen.

Lunch on the counter, dishes to be done, laundry in the process of being finished, socks on the counter, pile of crap that needs to be organized...

Vivi had taken the empty egg carton, dumped out Ferg and Millie's food and was placing one kibble at a time through the holes in the carton.

Attention span on this project: about 4 minutes. (Which I thought was good.)

This is all Vivi.

I can clean when Vivi's eating.

Car seat that we're giving away by the door. books on the floor. Stuff all over the table.

Diaper bag half-unpacked at the table.

Literally, stuff EVERYWHERE.

The girls' corner in the living room.

The courtyard.

Those are Lila's [clean] underpants on the top part of the water table.

Vivi carried them around for an hour and then got them wet and put them there.

Back patio.

So, my dear friends...

It ain't all perfect.

It AIN'T all perfect. :)

  1. For a minute I thought I was looking at my house and wondered how you got here. :) Your kitchen could be my own.

This is one of the many reasons I love you.

    Thanks for keeping it real.

  2. I tried to comment from my phone but it would work! You are AWESOME! I love it! Thanks for the shout out!

  3. Your mess is awesome! :-) Messes are just a part of life and I try to embrace that and then clean like a banshee when I get the chance!

The wet underwear outside made me snicker!

  4. I read this post Sunday night before bed and it was the absolute perfect end to my weekend (I couldn't comment from my phone - booo). Our house was completely trashed most of the weekend. We ran a lot of errands, had an appointment at the new house and almost nothing got done at home. At one point yesterday I almost lost it because I literally couldn't see the floor in the living room or an inch of counter space in the kitchen. It's such a comfort to know I'm not alone.

I love the dog food in the egg container part... cracks me up.

I'll get some photos of our "normal" next weekend and contribute to the keepin' it real effort :)

  5. I'm so glad your house looks like this. So does mine.

  6. This is great. It reminds me of an article I read recently (I can't remember where, of course) about how Facebook helps fuel depression because most people only post the good/great stuff, and good/great photos... never the real stuff, where you look like crap and you had a bad day (or week or year). And so, because we have this need to compare ourselves to everyone else, and FB makes it easy to assume everyone else's lives are better/problem free... well, you get the idea.

I applaud you for keepin' it real. Fo' real.

  7. SO TRUE!

Our house is a disaster. I have been trying for months to clean it up and it is impossible. At first I cared, but now I don't. It is what it is. 75% of the time T & I are home alone with Henry. If the laundry stays on the love seat then it stays there. If the bills pile up on the table, so what. If we have a jumper, bouncer, car seat, AND swing in our dining room then fine....we can only do the best we can and what we can.

I totally agree that in today's age, we only post the pictures that make everything look "perfect". But like you said, it ain't always perfect :)

I have pictures....I may post them as well!
