Meet my new friend.

This is my crock pot. (Or, I believe they're calling them, "slow cookers" nowadays.)

I bought it this past weekend after being on a *search* for one. (They're hard to come by in Cabo. For my friends living here, I found it at the new CCC.)

My early-life experiences with crock pots revolved around this model at right (not my picture, one found on the vast interweb) and usually it involved pot roasts accompanied by overly mushy vegetables, then during the holidays, it became a spiced cider receptacle.

I remember HOW annoying it was to wash the crock pot, too. I mean, the plug was attached. How do you wash out a meat-cooking-device with a plug and not get the plug wet?

Anywho, I'm pumped about my new crock pot and I anticpate that it will change our lives for the better.

Got any good recipes? BRING 'em on. Please note, I'm not a big fan of Campbell's, "Cream of" soup line. (Hello sodium.)

Thanks, ya'll.

  1. Lean pork roast with a can of apple pie filling. Let it cook all day at low. Mmmmm Delish! Now if you get the pie filling with no flavoring added, you need to had 1/4 cup of brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon! I serve it with mashed potatoes and a fresh green veggie!

  2. I just started making ribs in my crockpot. Cover with BBQ sauce, cook on low 6-8 hours. They fall off the bone and your house smells amazing.

  3. This is what I am buying myself for Christmas. My old one sucks big time. This will be my favorite kitchen appliance next to my Kitchen Aid mixer! Do you like the Hamilton Beach? I was thinking that or Rival.

  4. I love my crock pot. :) We've been doing a chuck roast (I think mine are around 2-3#?), a can of beef broth or beef consomme (or homemade if you have it), a jar of the deli-sliced pepperoncinis, and 2-3 tablespoons of Italian seasoning. Just cook it on low for 8-10 hours, and it's DELISH. We usually eat them on hoagie rolls with some melted swiss cheese.

  5. Yay for the crock pot! (It will always be a crock pot, not slow cooker to me). I love the ease it creates for life. . . especially for busy mommies. Congrats!

  6. I just posted a recipe on my blog.
And now you need the slow cooker liners from Reynolds and you won't even have the pan to wash out.

  7. Oh, congrats on the new addition! She is beautiful. I will let you know of some recipes! Crock-pots are fantastic.

That old one is fantastic! T. had one like that when we first starting dating. It may still be in a box somewhere....safely hidden away.

  8. Crock pots are awesome.

We season up a pork roast with salt, pepper and rosemary or sage, sear it on all sides in a pan (seals all the juices in there!), and then throw it in the crock pot with beef broth, red potatoes, onions, carrots for about 4 hours... we throw some greenbeans in there too toward the end. Good stuff!
