11 About Me - Liebster Award

4/03/2014 10:15:00 PM
I was so pleased to be nominated by Marta over at Oh My Marta! for the blogger-given "Liebster Award" -- it's a way for all of us bloggers to acknowledge one another.

Here are the rules to accept the award:

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display the award.
2. Answer eleven questions the blogger gives you.
3. Give eleven random facts about yourself.
4. Nominate eleven blogs that you think are deserving of the award. (The caveat is that they shouldn't have a large following already.)
5. Let the bloggers know you nominated them.
6. Give them eleven questions to answer.

So here the questions Marta asked me:

1. Why did you start blogging?

Well, I read a book (uh-huh) about blogging back in 2006 and thought, "Yeah, I need to give this a whirl."  Here's my first post, ever. And this post? It's my 4,895th.

2. What is your favorite thing to do with your children?

Joke around. I love laughing and chatting with them like they're real miniature human beings. You know what I mean, right? The chatting that just happens and makes you smile and realize that these little beings in your home who were once so utterly dependent on you are in fact little people with dreams, concerns and ideas of their own.

Sigh.

I also like to read with 'em.

3. What is your least favorite thing to do with your children?

Run errands. My children do not enjoy running errands. I do not taking them with me to run errands. NO ONE is happy errand-running.

4. How do you define success in blogging?

For a while, I measured success in comments and unique page views and new visitors and time spent on the site.
Then I thought that anyone who posted "sponsored" posts on their blog was incredible.
Then I realized, only recently, that sharing experiences is where it's at.

Trying to get pregnant for Lila, the passing of my Mom, which I've written about extensively, has resonated with more than a few people. I know this, because they've told me. This pleases me more than words can say because out of something so tragic and horrific has come blooms and hope.

5. Favorite store?

I'm mad at Target.
I love etsy and amazon.

6. Favorite movie?

It's a Wonderful Life.

7. Favorite book?

The book of James. Practical. Timeless. Get out of your own way and be the person you were created to be. No excuses.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4.

8. Least favorite food?

Quail eggs. We did this crazy-fancy dinner with my husband's clients and I could barely stomach the entire meal... the quail eggs put me over the edge. I couldn't do it. Especially when the gentleman we were eating with said, "On the [golf] course this morning, there was a Mom and her small baby quails."

Barf.

9. Greatest fear?

More loss.

10. Happiest Moment?

Those moments when the wind blows, the sun shines, the girls are playing and Craig is at my side. Those moments when the troubles and the reality of life evade us and it's just us... being.

11. Point in time you would like to travel to?

The morning of September 9, 2013. Hartville, Missouri.

11 Random Facts about me

1. Craig and I were meat-less eaters for 8 years. Today, we still don't favor it. But I do love me an Arby's sandwich with extra horsey and Arby sauce.

2. I was going to name "Lila" (my oldest daughter) "Vivienne", but Angelina Jolie "took the name from me" so after my breakdown we named her Lila. (I know, whatever Kylee.)

3. I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters and none of them are my full siblings. I'm both the youngest with one set and the oldest of another. BUT, I would never, EVER, in a million years classify them as my "half siblings", either. NEVER. Ever

4. My name is Kylee, but my family and close friends usually call me, "Ky." Except for one guy I worked with who immediately called me, "Ky." I found it strange, but I liked that he felt like we were already friends. Tee hee.

5. I do not laugh at most obvious comedies, but my husband does, so I laugh, too.

6. It still bothers me that strong women are called the "B" word and strong men are just "strong."

7. I always imagined myself being the Mama of boys, never girls.

8. I'm a homebody, but I love being out. I know. It confuses me, as well.

9. My driver's license was suspended when I was 17 because I got 3 tickets in less than 2 months. I had "work and school privileges" only. Slightly embarassing.

10. I am the least athletic person I know and cringe if someone asks me to play volleyball. However, I love pilates, yoga and most BeachBody workouts.

11. I want to leave this world, better. Somehow.

Muchisimas gracias again, Marta at Oh My, Marta!

  1. I love getting to know you better! My brother and sister are also my "half" siblings but never in a million years do I think of them that way!

  2. 8 and 9 ME TOO. Mine was technically when I was 18 and it was the summer I was home from college and I couldn't drive anywhere. It was sad. And I technically took the car out one night to go see my boyfriend, who then broke up with me that night. NOT WORTH IT!

  3. LOVE this and your answers!

    Totally doing this :-)

Running errands with kids just SUCKS. Don't get me wrong, sometimes Henry actually IS good and listens, for the most part. But it takes FOREVER, and is annoying and I would much rather just do it on my own!!

Also, my three siblings are all "half" siblings but I never call them that either. NO.

Strangely, I think your kids names fit their personality perfectly!

(Remember how it seemed we use to do these kind of quizzes all the time?! Miss it!!)
