I picked the girls up from school today and I usually ask them three things:
1.) What did you play today?
2.) What did you sing today?
3.) What did you learn today?
Immediately after I buckled my ladies into their matching pink car seats Lila said this to me:
"Mommy, tell me everything you know."
"You want to know everything, Lila?"
"Well, lucky for you, I know everything."
"Yes, this is why I asked."
Here's what I know:
I know that having you was the coolest thing that's ever happened to me. I know that being your Mommy pushes me and stretches me and even though I sometimes make mistakes, my intention comes from the purest of places and that I love you (and your sister) with all my heart and soul.
I know that you shouldn't pet turtles for fear of diseases.
I know that you can swim after you've eaten.
I know that letting the conditioner sit on your hair while you wash your body in the shower is far more productive and less stressful than trying to comb the conditioner through your hair with your fingers.
I know that silence is golden but laughter is better.
I know that God is the master-planner of all things and that all of our days are ultimately scheduled, more or less, and that it's our responsibility to use our lives in the best way possible.
I know that one should never try to make their own yogurt, because that's gross. Just buy your yogurt at the store.
I know that it doesn't matter how expensive the flats are, the truth is they will always smell bad within 6 months so never pay $200 for a pair.
I know that having a sister is the best gift I'll ever give you.
I know that it's ok if you're not good at something, because you'll be amazing with something else.
I know that being a survivor is far more admirable than being a victim.
I know that marshmallows are a gift straight from God.
I know that saving up (your words, your money, your heart) for the right thing... instead of blowing it on the wrong thing/person... even though it may be more difficult... is what the wise person does.
I know that oatmeal is good for your heart, but sometimes so is a good cry, Steal Magnolias and chocolate chip cookies with milk.
I know that you're loved and that you're enough.
And for all that I know, and all that I don't know, right now I know that being your Mommy, and your sister's Mommy is right.where.I.want.to.be.
Sweet Lila Ross, I know I love you. Thanks for reminding me.
