Father's Day School Recap

On Friday morning we were PUMPED to go to Lila's Father's Day presentation at school. It was Lila's first year participating in the "Elocution Exercises" there.

It went a little something like this:

1.) The students were given a short rhyme (in spanish) a month or so ago to memorize.
2.) They practice at home and school.
3.) The day of, they step on to a platform and introduce themselves to a group of 30 groups of parents (!!!) and say their rhyme.

The parents clap and cheer as the children are brought out one-by-one from the classroom and hold the hand of the teacher as they walk to the stage. They do their rhyme. We all clap again. Encouragingly. No matter what. Even if they get up there and go blank. Even if they cry. Even if they rock it out.

My heart was beating OUT OF CONTROL for first 20 kids. Public speaking? Lila? NO! As if.

Um...

...

She did great.

She held her teacher's hand the first time.

If you care to listen. (35 seconds, I believe.)

Our entire little household knows this rhyme, too. (When we practiced at home we taught her to stand on a chair and hold a fake microphone and then when she was finished, she'd drop the mike, arms outstretched in the Eddie Murphy, Coming to America Sexual Chocolates style. :) It was awesome.)

"En esta ramito, de flores de olor, guardo muy dentro tu corazon. Gracias."

The loose translation is: "In this small bouquet of lovely smelling flowers, I guard/keep you heart very close."

So sweet.

And then it was song time.

Tee hee. The pic on the left cracked me up.

And then the singing commenced. :) "You are my Daddy, my only Daddy... You make me happy, when skies are grey."

The song...

And then the kiddos found their Daddies and gave them the gifts they prepared for them.

Pretty sweet.

It was lovely.

Oh, my baby...

...she's growing up.

Why would we both look at the camera?

Us, sans Vivi. Good times.

More pics here. Let me know if you can't see them.
