A questionable children's book.

We're a fan of Karen Katz in our house. We like her books (the girls loved Daddy Hugs and Mommy Hugs). We also have I Can Share, Excuse Me! about manners and for our resident violent offender (Vivienne Kate), No Hitting!.

Today we're spotlighting, No Hitting!.

The book is simple. Well, because it's written for toddlers. (I know. Obvious.)

It names the problem behavior: I'm mad, I want to "jump up and down and yell and scream."

Then it clearly states that behavior is not ok, and offers a solution, "You can jump up and down in the leaves, crunch, crunch, CRUNCH!"

Clearly the scenarios are toddler-based, but they're valid.

I get it. YOU WANT TO WRITE IN YOUR SISTER'S BOOK!

"That's not ok, but I can scribble on my art pad. Scribble, scribble, SCRIBBLE!

So when I was reading this book out loud to Vivi for the first time on Christmas I laughed at this one:

Let's repeat that:

"I'M MAD! I WANT TO SQUEEZE THE CAT."

Stop it.

I literally cannot say that without laughing.

I love to quote this, you guys. "I AM SO MAD I COULD SQUEEZE A CAT!"

What toddler wants to squeeze a cat? In ANGER?

I'm not cat person, but I'd never go to my friend Wrestling Kitties' house, knock on her door, walk in and grab one of her cats and SQUEEZE it because I AM SO MAD.

But I don't know, maybe a toddler would.

Oh, sigh.

The solution is this.

 Definitely better than the alternative.
