And the pyramid is out.

Did you all see this? The Agriculture Department is replacing the USDA'S food pyramid with this new food guideline.

The goal is for it to be easier for Americans to understand and practice healthy eating.

I don't see a space for nutella or reese's eggs.

  1. The Reese's eggs could count as dairy. Nutella has protein in it so you could place it in the protein section:)

  2. You know (despite the lack of placement for Nutella and Reese's eggs and chocolate-covered pretzels), I kind of like this. It IS a better visual representation than the pyramid -- much easier to explain to kids, too, I'd think.

  4. This is way better than the pyramid, in my opinion.

As long as ice cream sundaes are ok for dairy! :)

  5. Yeah, I am not seeing a place for peanut butter eggs either....but otherwise I like this!

I have seen a lot of diet programs use a plate to show exactly how much food from each category you should be eating. Much better than that pyramid!

  6. overall, i like it. if the pyramid was too confusing for the general american public, hopefully they can latch onto this here visual guide. and when i clicked through the link you posted, i also liked that they gave a shout-out to watching sodium. that's something the hubs and i have been trying to pay more attention to lately, cause seriously... it's crazy how much salt is "hidden" in everything that comes in a box, bag, or carton!!

  7. This is so much better! It's about time they came out with something like this.

I haven't had Nutella in so long. Yum. Now I want some!

  9. Interesting that the fats/oils section is completely gone. No straight lard for us!

  10. I'm a pretty big fan of this new layout. Not a huge healthy eater to begin with, but I can safely say, that EVEN I cannot screw this up.

  11. I just eat my Nutella straight out of the jar no need for a spot on the plate then! Ha ha!

If it wasn't for your post on scooping peanut butter and Nutella together for a Reese's like flavor I would have never tried it, now I am an addict. It is all your fault.
