Memory Lane: I've always had something to say

Me. Maybe I was 4 or so?
No idea. Well before I started writing letters of complaint to my Mom.

When my Mom visited this past Christmas she brought along some of the MANY notes I had written her when I was a kid. (I voiced most of my grievances in written form then would place said correspondence in a mailbox that I had created for her bedroom door. Shocker? Not so much.)

This one's my favorite. I wrote it when I was 8 years old, just four months after my baby sister was born:

"Dear Mom,

I think your very unfair. (If I do say so myself. I clean my room, Grandma says it is very neat. She said your were picky too. First you like Taryn better then me. If you don't like me why don't you say so? Secondly you always hate the way I clean my room. That ain't fair.

Mom, I love you very much. But I don't think that you are always fair.

Rules

1. I think you and I should try to get along better.

If you like these rules singn her

  2. This is too funny. I have drawn up an agreement for my daughter on what is expected of her to continue having us pay for English Horse riding lessons. (Just simple things like manners, keeping her room neat and behaving, etc--hey don't judge it's the only thing that means anything to her right now, so I'm using it).

Anyhow, I quickly wrote it up, signed it and asked her to sign it. She proceeded to "grade" my paper and called me out on a double negative! SHE'S NINE!!!

But she did sign it and peace prevails in our home.

...and I love that you made her sign it and return to you.

  4. Classic.

Guess Shirley didn't like your rules since she chose not to sign this. Which is weird because it was a totally reasonable request :)

    Love this.

(You've always had such lovely penmenship.)

  11. Oh my goodness. Awesome! It's funny how your personality was all over it. Adorable pic, as well.

I used to leave notes on my parents bed at night that went something like, "I love you very, very, very, very much. . . blah, blah, blah. We still have them and I blush when I read them.

It will be interesting to see if Lila does the same for you. Or perhaps you will have emails or text messages instead.

  13. I love this. I imagine laughing my head off the first time my children write me a note like this. Today I cracked up when my son was throwing a tantrum in the hallway. I tried to hold it in, I just couldn't!
