Flu vaccine side effects?

Have you given your little one (how old?) the flu vaccine?

Which one? And, did s/he experience any side effects?

What were they and how long did they last?

(Lila had the flu vaccine last Friday (because of the new baby) and has had a fever on and off for four days and is BEYOND irritable. I think she's teething, too. Ideal timing with my family wedding this Saturday.)

  2. I'm an anti-flu vaccine girl, but....my friends who have given their children the vaccine had similar side effects. HUGS!

  3. We had our 12-month old get the flu shot last month...she had the same type of side effects, low-grade fever and crankiness...I'm assuming that it was a combination of the vaccine, teething and a cold, so with all of those other factors, I can't tell you exactly how long she was affected.

  4. Poor sad Lila :(

I was just about to blog about this. I had the vaccine last week and think I am in the clear. I took it easy for a few days but I did not get a fever or sniffles or cranky (well any more than usual).

  5. I guess I'm lucky, Wyatt had it a few weeks ago with his 6 month shots and had no side effects from any of the shots. He's teething too and other than the buckets of drool you wouldn't know. I will thank my lucky stars because neither A or W are bothered by shots or teething. Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this with what you're dealing with. Hugs to you!

  6. Athena has never had a reaction to the regular old flu shot. It's not a live virus so side effects are rare. Now if she had the nasal one, that one is a live yet weakened virus and can give symptoms.

9 times out of 10 if you get sick right after you get the flu shot it's a coincidence and you were going to get sick anyway. You aren't immune to the virus for 21 days after getting the shot so chances are she caught something.

You know I know a ridiculous amount about flu shots, so any other questions are more than welcome.

  7. P.S. She got it this year and last year. Athena's friend Annabelle started getting it at 1 year old. She was on chemo, immuno-suppressed, and did not have side effects from it. Lila's immune system can definitely handle it.

  8. Thanks everyone!

We ended up getting Lila a flu shot because I'm sort of terrified that she'll somehow infect the new baby...

Truth? I think Lila's feeling a phenomenal mixture of teething and flu shot remnants. Hopefully she's on the up and up, though. She did great at the first wedding event tonight. We'll see how the rehearsal dinner goes tomorrow!

  9. My kids have never experienced negative symptoms from the flu shot but I know so many little ones that have...she will be as good as new in no time (and of course the teething doesn't help). Hang in there...hugs to you both.

  10. K, I hope Lila is feeling better already...

Nadja, I wonder if we know the same Annabelle! N and J are her parents? What a sweet little girl.
