Building walls.

As it turns out, we're not fostering a sense of relationship with our neighbors. Instead, we've created a barrier.

You see, our patios are separated by a cement wall that did not go all the way up to the top of the roof.
Here's why this is a big deal.

(See? About a 2 ft. space that was wide open.)

Both our neighbors and us live with our patio doors open whenever we're home. We eat, work and hang out on our patios. Often at the same time. So, we hear one another. (AHHHHhhhh.... Remember that one time my neighbors had a full-fledged wedding at their house? During the week? Complete with mariachi band and music until the wee hours of the morning? Yeah. Love them.)

So the final straw: not too long ago my neighbors made the decision to welcome three lab puppies into their home. Sweet? Yes. Incredibly noisy and annoying? Absolutely. They leave these puppies to bark and fight on their patio all.day.long while they work. Not in their yard. On their patio.

(I blame these dogs for encouraging Lila's barking.)

It was RIDICULOUS.

So we decided it was time for a wall.

It may not look amazing, but in real-life it does. And, it'll look even cuter after we do some decorating.

Best thing? WE CANNOT HEAR a peep (or a bark) from our neighbors.

Best purchase of brick EVER.

  1. Ha! I wonder what your neighbors think???

My parents put up shrubs along their fence one year and the neighbors kept commenting on it. You know, the 'omg, I think we are annoying and bother them' comments...."So, trying to block us out, huh?"

    LOL. Ummm...YES!

  2. nice work, i don't know why they wouldn't have made it go all the way up in the first place. it's like in a public bathroom when they build walls around all the toilets but they don't go all the way to the top- what's the point?!

we have good neighbors on all sides except one. i have seriously considered putting up a taller fence on that side. they throw trash into our yard and let their little kids taunt our dogs. you know, the ROTTWEILER? not a fan.

  3. SassyTimes - we actually told my neighbors about the wall (the day before) and they were totally fine with it.

(I'm certain they hate hearing us, too.)

    :)
