MexMo: Getting screwed crescent-style

3/12/2010 12:08:00 AM

Down here in Meh-hee-coe crescent rolls are hard to come by. Now, to the average bear - this doesn't matter. To me, it matters because I use crescent rolls as the top crust to my SUPER-BIEN pot pie recipe.

I digress.

So I go to Mega.
See the rolls randomly placed next to the whip cream in the coolers.
I buy six of them.

Would anyone like to guess how much I paid for these little suckers?

NOTE: There are no consistent "shelf tags" like there are in the States for each and every product. Nor, is there consistent grocery inventory. When you see something you need, you blindly buy at least four of said product.

So, I'm going to make you click if you'd like to see how much I spent. Per can.

$70 pesos per can.
That's the equivalent of $5.55 EACH.

Now let's multiply that by 6.

I JUST PAID $33.30 (+ tax) FOR CRESCENT ROLLS.

AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh.

YES, friends THERE IS A COST ASSOCIATED WITH LIVING in "paradise."

Ain't no pot pie worth that much.

[insert scream]

...going to put my flips on, walk to the beach and have a margarita now...

Still jealous?

  1. I'd pay $30 for crescent rolls if I could go put on my flip flops, make a margi and walk on the beach any day! LOL

Dave and I were just talking yesterday how we just want to go somewhere (sans children) and be able to walk out our hotel and walk the beach...we just need to plan it already and stop talking about it! It's not easy leaving the kiddies but pretty soon it's time again.

  2. Okay, were you tapped into our house last night listening to our conversation???

I'm attempting to make a pot pie tonight (for the first time) for dinner. I told my husband I have to figure out how to make the top of the pie and we came up with crescent rolls!

    How random...

  3. What would be the cost then of purchasing said rolls in the US, then shipping them to Meh-hee-co?

It's GOTTA be cheaper that $33!

  6. How long do they keep? Can you freeze them?

    Can you make your own?

    This whole thing sounds frustrating.
