No one over the age of 5 should every reply, "Huh?".

Alternate responses:

"What"?

"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"

"Pardon"?

NOT, "HUH?".

  2. I always say "pardon" and I ALWAYS feel old when I do.

  3. Huh? I don't get it.

  4. I think it's far worse to say "Huh" then answer the question. Why the hell would you say "Huh?" if you heard what I said.

  5. Are you spying on me?!

I was totally going to write a post about this exact thing today. I got my hair cut yesterday and my hairstylist mumbled something I couldn't hear. I said 'pardon' and instantly felt about 100-years-old.

That got me to thinking about what would have sounder cooler. Definitely not 'huh'. Maybe 'what', but that sorta seems rude. Even 'I'm sorry, could you repeat that' seems stuffy, but better than 'huh'.

  6. It doesn't happen often, but I immediately cringe any time I hear myself do that...

  7. D - I hate that, too. "Huh?" And then you answer me? What?!

  8. Yes! Agreed! Also, "Who?" is certainly not an appropriate response.
