Lila Lunes: 5 months and 1 week

Giving her bottle the stare-down.

Lila’s feeling better. Whew. The cold, we believe, has left the building. (i.e. Lila’s body.)

That was tough, I'll tell you. Coughing, sleepless nights, vomiting, more coughing... yikes.

The CUPdate for this week:

So yeah, I remember hearing my Mom friends tell me before I had Lila that they knew what their baby needed just by hearing and discerning their baby’s cry.

I thought these people were nuts.

Then, after I had Lila, and heard her cries, I really thought these people were nuts. I had no idea what her cries meant. In all honesty, though - for the first 8 weeks or so I felt like I was just babysitting someone else's kid.

I’m proud to say, 5 months and one week later, I can TOTALLY discern Lila’s sleepy cry from her hungry cry, her sad cry from her, “I’m-about-to-lose-it” cry. It took some time, but I’d like to offer a hearty apology to all of you moms-before-me who I thought were crazy when you mentioned those whole, “baby-whispering-understanding-the-cry” thing.

Q. So how are things?
A. Lila’s feeling better, we’re leaving the house more and most importantly, Lila got to wear her new gold sparkly shoes from Aunt T. to Thanksgiving.

Confession: The shoes are a little too big, but I really wanted her to wear them.

Q. What's Lila up to these days? How does she fill her time?
A. Well, in no particular order, this is what she does. She:
  • Sleeps/naps
  • Sings
  • Sucks on/plays with her feet
  • Sticks out her tongue
  • Plays with books
  • Jumps
  • Eats
Then starts all of that over.

Q. So, is Lila more like me or more like Craig?
A. Physically, I think she’s very similar to C., although at times I do see myself in her. (Like when she makes her monkey face.)

Personality-wise, I’m thinking our Cupcake may be following in Mommy’s ADD footsteps. Lila is physically unable to sit still. Her feet are moving, her legs are moving, her hands are moving… all.the.time.

I am the exact same way. If you know me, you’ll vouch for that. I’m physically incapable of not doing at least two things at all times. (Yes, even when we’re having a conversation, you’ll notice that I’m crafting a small ball out of paper with my two fingers, or I’m tapping a pen on my leg, or I’m wiggling my feet. It’s an illness.)

Also, Lila is either smiling or screaming. Ask my husband, I believe we may be cut from the same cloth.

Screaming after a bath.

Lila seems to have unruly hair, as well. Ah yes, this may come from me, too.

Really, it’s been pretty awesome to see her little personality develop. It’s enlightening and terrifying all at the same time.

*Note: We’re fearful at this time that Lila won’t crawl. Nope, we’ve basically come to the conclusion that we’re going to get her out of her crib one morning, put her down, and bam! She’ll run away from us. People actually say, "Wow... she doesn't sit still, does she?" Um. Nope.

Random Stuff

Lila loves her Daddy. If she hears his voice, she stops whatever she's doing and stares at him. Sometimes when I'm feeding her, I have to leave the room so she doesn't hear Craig. Otherwise, she can't concentrate. :) She, I'm happy to report, is a Daddy's girl.

Wearing her Reindeer hat from my Mom. Yes, in 80 degree Cabo weather. (It was chilly Sunday afternoon!)

Lila's Flash Dance look
(My absolute favorite picture of the week.)

Hanging out on the patio.

The girl cousins in their PJ's on Thanksgiving. Bella is currently wearing the bunny ears.

Then it was Lila's turn... Ha!

Helping out with Thanksgiving cooking earlier in the day.

My precious sweetie pie.

Take care, everyone.

(I'd like to apologize for the whacked out formatting of this post. I wrote in in Word and pasted it in blogger and it's been unruly and annoying. I don't feel like fixing it.)

Boy oh boy... Saturday nights have changed.

Our Saturday night. In pictures.
--
The first fire of the season.
On our patio.

Who doesn't like fire?

Ferg. Cudding with me.
Yes, those are YOGA pants I'm wearing; the classy cousin of the sweatpant.
And yes, my thigh looks ginormous... uh...um...it...was...the camera angle...

And the table that C. and I sat at for several hours.
Red wine for me.
White wine for him.
OSU can holder.
Baby monitor.
Milky way for me
Snickers for C.
Itzbeen timer.
Water.
And the past 5 months of MacWorld that I've been trying to catch up on since Lila's birth.

Saturday's are different... and I'd have it no other way.

My Christmas trees

Note: Now that Thanksgiving has officially passed, it's fare game to talk Christmas decor. Rest assured that as you read this I have a Christmas tree flavored candle burning, I'm listening to CHRISTMAS (not, "Holiday") music, and I'm cozy in my snuggie. Ho. Ho. Ho.

--

So, when we moved to Mexico we basically left our home as it was and well, just left... This means that we left all of our "stuff" - including my beloved Christmas decor - in Ohio.

That said, I make do here in the land of the tamales.

Here are my two cute little trees. ;)

Tree A.

Tree B. The new addition.

Please note the doughnut ornament given to me from my sister and Clo.

Merry Christmas.

Read it.

Read Grumbles & Grunts blog post today. It's a good one.

Today's Inappropriate Trivia

The other day I asked my sister what the little, round, hard thing in the middle of an avocado actually was actually called.

She promptly googled it and gave me the response below:

It's a seed and, "the parts of a seed are the plumule and the radicle".

Who knew?

She then proceeded to ask me, "Did you know that the name avocado comes from the aztec name which means testicle tree?"

Lol

Indeed I did not.

Here's the page where she found said info.

And most importantly, here's the photo that was displayed on that page:

And that, my friends, was today's inappropriate triva.

It appears that The Martha had a good weekend

This past weekend the ever-endearing Martha attended the, "party of the century", Diddy's 40th birthday party.

I believe the best part of her photos (all 68 of them, which I did look at), are the random people she's pictured with AND, of course, her captions. (The third picture down is my favorite caption.)

Here are just a few of my favorites. You can find the rest here.

It doesn't get better than this.

Lila Lunes: She's FIVE months old.
Alternate title: "L" is for "Loud"

Lila says, "Hey..."

Yep. This past week was a big one in the, "B" household.

As it turns out, Lila LOVES to talk/sing/yell. Check it out. (Doesn't it make you totally want to have four of these?)

Q. How's Lila?
A. Well, she's been better. Our little Cupcake has a bit of a cold. It's our first experience with illness in a baby and well, it's terrible. To watch your little sweetie pie cough and sneeze and cough and sneeze is pretty tough. (At least this first time around.)

Q. Did you take Lila to the doctor?
A. Um, of course. She went on Saturday and thankfully the Dr. said her lungs sound clear and since she doesn't have a fever, it looks like she just has the, "Cabo Cough" that is going around.

Q. Is Lila getting better?
A. I think so! We'll see how tonight (Sunday night) goes... Saturday night wasn't so hot.

Here's my sick Cupcake on Saturday morning after the both of us had gotten, oh, I don't know... four hours of sleep? Poor thing.

Don't you just want to snuggle that little cutie?

Q. How is Lila eating?
A. She's was doing very well before she got The Cough. She eats everything she can get her mouth on. Even the tray on her bumbo seat. She also tried bananas this week. Watch the video. Her face cracked me up.

So, earlier in the week Lila hung out with her cousin, Bella. Here they are at Bella's house sitting in Bella's little seats. Um. Cute. I cannot wait until they can play together. (Bella's will be 2 in January.)

Here's Bella all excited that, "Eye-lah" was sitting next to her!

Bell liked Lila's strawberry shoes.

And I love this one. Click on it. They're both so excited to see one another.

Here's Lila all ready for bed. (Posing with Lola Bunny from Chloe.)
(She kept licking the bunny then making a terribly hilarious face. I kept saying, "Hey sister, its a STUFFED animal. You're licking fur. " However, nothing deters The Cupcake.)

And, we had some time to kill... so I thought I'd pose Lila with her stuffed animals.
She was a fantastic sport.

Lila's done a lot of resting this week.
Here she is swinging in the courtyard.

Sleeping is precious.

So are baby hands.

Our family is helping some friends out with a Flat Stanley project. He was sent to us and we need to take him to different places in Cabo and take his picture. Unfortunately, with Lila being under the weather, we haven't gotten out much. We will later this week. 'Till then, here's Stanley and Lila in the kitchen.

I can't get over these bath pictures.

Sticking her tongue out aids her concentration.
(She gets this from her Daddy.)

Sometimes it's just easier to bathe in the sink.
(Note, it usually grosses me out to have Lila be in the sink, however, she sitting on her actual bath seat, NOT the sink. I can handle that. And, well... I make certain the sink is ABSOLUTELY clean before we go there.)

And finally, I was folding laundry and Lila liked wearing my robe.

She says, "Bye" and, "Have a fantastic Thanksgiving."

Take care, all of you. Happy Thanksgiving, my friends.
Love,
