MexMo: You have GOT to be kidding me.

I think it's been ingrained in me since youth that as Christmas approaches, it is my responsibility to bake Christmas cookies.

In all honesty, I'm not even that big of a fan of Christmas cookies.

Still, this past weekend we drove to a grocery store we NEVER go to. Why? Because they might possibly have butter. Yes, good 'ole American, measured in tablespoons, normal-sized butter.

To my delight - they had butter!
What didn't they have? Prices on ANY of the products in the store. (They never do.)

This is always a delightful surprise. You get up to the register and sometimes realize you just spent $10 on a box of Velveeta Shells & Cheese. Anywho...

I bought FOUR boxes of butter (Challenge & Land-o-Lakes brands) that contain FOUR sticks of butter each. (Total of 16 sticks 1/2 cup sticks.)

See below.
Care to know how much I spent?

First off, let me tell you that upon seeing how much I was being charged per box, my mouth dropped open.

I called my Mom and apparently in Missouri - she just paid $8.00 for four boxes (16 sticks) of butter.

I paid $40 USD. Yes.
FORTY DOLLARS.

I'm ready to move.

  3. There is Mexican-butter, but for some reason it tastes different to me. I usually eat it, however, for my Christmas cookies I wanted American butter with precise table-spoon measurements, as opposed to grams, which I will never understand.

My S-I-L has recommended some great Mexican butter that she loves. I shall try that next time, at I'm sure, a FRACTION of the cost.

    FYI: the cookies were GREAT.

  4. OK - according to the online conversion site for BUTTER found at http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking_butter.htm

    1 US tablespoon = 14.2 grams

    Now you know!
